A SKANK IS A SKANK IS A SKANK!...LEST YOU FORGET HE WROTE THE PROTECTION ACT THEN SIGNED IT! President Obama Bashes Bloggers Then Shills For Monsanto By: DSWright Thursday October 17, 2013 10:42 am At today’s press conference President Obama retreated into his standard rhetorical routine, a civics lecture. No one is quite sure why he continually does this or who the audience is. Nonetheless, during the course of the 8th grade social studies lesson – which ended by reciting the pledge of allegiance (seriously) – Obama targeted bloggers as people who “profit from conflict.” Moments later, Obama then encouraged people to “argue for their position.” To get involved, speak their mind, and promote their values. I guess just don’t do it online? Carrier pigeons for reform! Obama then went on to lay out his priorities for the legislative session. Wait, the farm bill? Is that some sort of joke? Giving massive subsidies to agribusiness is a major priority? The corruption is just getting hilarious. While there is no shortage of graft in industries like Defense and Energy, the farm bill is easily the most corrupt and useless bill that passes Congress regularly. It is a pure giveaway to moneyed interests and dwarfs any kind of welfare given to the poor. It is one of the many reasons Republicans look like hypocritical fools when they argue against a culture of dependence. This hypocrisy was best exemplified in the recent vote to cut food stamps. Food stamps used to be part of the farm bill but Republicans did not want poor people getting anything from their corporate welfare bill. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind supporting farmers in need. Ironically that’s not what the farm bill is about. The farm bill is about finding ways for members of Congress to funnel money back to campaign contributors like Monsanto. The current version under discussion even extends the awful Monsanto Protection Act which Obama previously signed into law. The Monsanto Protection Act exempts genetically modified seeds from litigation for health risks. Beyond special gifts to Monsanto is the massive giveaway to the rich – farmers with incomes over $250,000 receive more than one third of the money for crop insurance. These subsidies come at a time of record commodity prices which has yielded historically high net farm income. This is one of President Obama’s top three priorities? Actually maybe it is not surprising Obama is not happy with bloggers, once you get past the pledge of allegiance his rhetoric can’t stand scrutiny...news.firedoglake/2013/10/17/president-obama-bashes-bloggers-then-shills-for-monsanto/ 58 Comments TAGS: BARACK OBAMA, FARM BILL, MONSANTO
