A SKI INSTRUCTOR IS NOT A TRADE This is a quote from the inland revenue as a justification for not allowing me to claim expenses. Allow me to explain, I am a one man limited company for engineering contract work, another means of earning money for my company is as a ski instructor. I am not working full time or fully qualified I am still in training and any time on snow is training. Thus my expenses far outweigh the income (at present). The expenses I claimed through the company against earning from the engineering were disallowed on the grounds stated.(ie A Ski Instructor is not a Trade ) If they had to be apportioned by a percentage for personal use, eg. The cost of accommodation for the season, I could understand. My accountant removed ski instructor earnings from this years company earnings and I asked if any future earning had to be declared, he said the inland revenue wouldnt comment. Has anyone else come across this, any comments welcome.
