A beautiful rendition of Szal a Kakas Mar. I first learned this beautiful tune when I was a little boy growing up in Hasidic community of Williamsburg. Though my paternal grandparents were from Hungary I never truly knew the meaning of the words since the spoken language between us was Yiddish. I use to sing this tune as a child soloist with so much soul put into it knowing the origin of this song to be from a 18th century rabbi, Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Taub, the renowned rabbi of Kalev, who penned several songs which grew into standards in the Hungarian Jewish scene. Later on I would learn that the origin of the song is an old Hungarian love songs that the rabbi heard from shepherds as he strolled the fields, and converted them to Jewish themes.
