A brilliant Mother I Samuel 1:1-28 Pastor Noel Balmes Camagon preaching on the celebration of Mother’s Day Special Intro: Every mother that is here today is special. Every mother that couldn’t be here today is special. They have all the privilege of being called ‘Mom or mommy. My mother is not present today and I would like to thank God because of her dedication and love to us in spites my father was died too soon, and left 9 children, including your truly but she continue to carry the burden alone. She was a brilliant mother to me, for she never abandoned us and become a faithful mother to us in spites of difficulties and problems she encountered. I want to challenge all mothers, fathers, and children today to be like Hannah, a brilliant mother. I. Her Sorrow. I Samuel 1: 1-8 A. Because of the times. They were overrun by their enemies. The nation of Israel had rejected God’s rule over them. ...every man did that which was right in his own eyes. B. Because of her family. . He had been influenced by the world in which he lived. He had disregarded God’s plan for marriage and had taken a second wife. C. Because of her childlessness. v2 D. Consider this godly faithful woman. Her husband had allowed worldly influence to overrun their life. She carried a tremendously heavy burden and her husband didn’t understand. But she still remained faithful to God. II. Her Supplication. I Samuel 1:9-18 A. Her correct response to her problems. v9-10 Psalms 146:3 Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. Psalms 54:4 Behold, God is mine helper: the Lord is with them that uphold my soul. B. Her sincere prayer. I Samuel 1:11-18 She ask for a son to give unto the Lord, to worship God, to be a glorified God. v11 ...give thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the Lord all the days of his life.” C. Her prayer was answered. v19 She saw the answer to her prayer when she prayed properly and with the right motive. James 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. Hannah asked properly and the Lord remembered her. III. Her Surrender. I Samuel 20-28 A. Her son is born. v20-23 She named him Samuel: meaning God has heard. She was determined to follow through with her promise to God. v22 Eccl. 5:4-5 When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed. Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay. Hebrew women nursed their children until they were about 3 years old. B. Her son is surrendered. v24-28 Now it was time for Samuel to begin his service for God. Hannah believed God and trusted Him to take care of her son. C. Her faith is rewarded. 1 Sam. 2:21 Samuel became one of the greatest men of God found in the book of Old Testament. Conclusion: Give your children to God, but before we can do that, we must first give ourselves to God. Before we can dedicate our children we must first dedicate ourselves to God’s service. Hannah gave her son, but we must not forget that God gave His Son that we might have everlasting life. Romans 12:1; II Cor.8:4-5
