A comment for my European friends. When visiting USA do not deal with police including immigration officers, the way you normally do. Police in USA can be brutal especially when dealing with people who are different, like foreigners or in this case a father of an autistic child. Autistic people or people who behave in unusual manners are at risk of the police because understanding peoples behavior does not seem part of their training. Never argue with police officers, follow their orders even if they seem uncommon. If they stop you, dont get out of the car to greet them instead you keep your hands on the wheel and await for instructions. They are different from European police. They behave more like the military and they are armed like the military. Why US citizens believe they are under such a threat to need a police for 8x the size per 100k than European police forces and why do they believe they need to incarcerate 9x as many people to feel safe is something I dont understand. But if you want to have a nice stay in the USA treat police with utmost respect regardless of how they behave. If Americans have few rights against the police as a foreigner you have even less. Comply and move on and everything will be fine and you will have a nice stay in this otherwise wonderful fascinating country.
