A declaration by the New York Police Department Union that it will engage in wartime policing in response to Saturdays killing of two city law enforcement officers has raised alarm among protesters and civil rights advocates, who ask: Have we learned nothing? A statement released Saturday by the New York Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association—the union for the NYPD—reads, The mayor’s hands are literally dripping with our blood because of his words actions and policies and we have, for the first time in a number of years, become a wartime police department. We will act accordingly. - Sarah Lazare Say, what? Wartime policing? So the NYPD is going to impose martial law -- on its own accord? They cant do that! The cops can only do that sort of thing in a police state! Oh, wait. I guess they can do that. But lets be clear about something. The NYPD is acting as though its under assault by the general populace. Its not. Not even close. There have been exactly 3 incidents of cop killings in New York City since 2011. And thats including the two recent victims. But the NYPD is carrying on as though there were some sort of war on cops being waged by the citizenry -- especially the African-American citizenry. I hate to say it, but it sounds to me like fear.
