A devotional based upon: “The Saving Life of Christ” by Major W. Ian Thomas. Tuesday’s Surrender… Exodus 3:2 - NLT - Suddenly, the angel of the LORD appeared to him as a blazing fire in a bush. Moses was amazed because the bush was engulfed in flames, but it didn’t burn up. Exodus 3:3 - NLT - “Amazing!” Moses said to himself. “Why isn’t that bush burning up? I must go over to see this.” A number of years ago when our family was younger, we heated our home with wood. Many of you folks already know what is required in order to burn wood to heat your house. The cutting - the splitting - the loading - the unloading - the stacking - the carrying - and, so on. I can remember through the cold winter nights, every night, sometime in the very early morning around 2:00 or 3:00 a.m., I would have to get up out of bed and trudge downstairs to check the fire in the woodstove and throw in some more pieces of hardwood so that the fire would last until morning. Then of course, first thing in the a.m. I’d be throwing in more fuel in an attempt to maintain a warm temperature in the house while the kids prepared for school and my wife and I made ready to go to work. Can you imagine using wood that would not “burn-up?” Can you picture ‘wood’ that would be engulfed with flames, but never turn to ash. Other wood-burning households would surely desire to ‘see’ and attain some of this special wood. It would be better than what we call ironwood or hop-hornbeam. This “fire” fed by this “special” wood would be desired by all. But me, I tend to be like the wood I used years ago. I burn out - too easily. My fire needs to be regularly fed - with the Word of God and the filling of the Spirit of God. And, don’t forget prayer, too. With these tools, I become stronger - I last longer - and I give off heat. The heat of the Gospel of Christ. I hope I warm people’s lives with the fire that burns within me. This is my prayer. Thank you, Father.
