A dream I had this morning: The pain and enmity that surrounds every being is manifest as a weapon, object, or an article of clothing; sometimes an oddly malformed bodily part that has an odd color. There are beasts with huge mouths--objects of ridicule and derision. They walk around, drooling, mouths agape, with an intense light in their eyes. Huge, lumbering beasts, they are rarely taken seriously and are often used for menial tasks and drudgery. One night, all the people of the world awaken and walk out onto their porches and front lawns, the skies above a black blanket with holes punched in it, the night air chill and full of emptiness. They stand there with their hands at their sides, and begin to shake as if possessed, their eyes rolling back in the sockets, their heads violently shaking from side to side. Their attachments of pain are released from their bodies to float out into the open space in front of them, hovering. The people collapse while the objects swell in size and luminescence. At once, the Great-Mouthed Beasts lumber forth from the darkness, their jaws spread wide on hinges like the jaws of a snake, swallowing all of the glowing objects with massive gulps and swallows. After the collection is complete, the Great-Mouths shrink in size until they implode like supernovae; a soft breeze blows through the chill air and the smell of lilacs wafts over the world. The people awaken as if from a dream, bewildered and shaking their heads. Trying to re-establish their bearings, the feel their bodies light and waif-like. They begin to gently float into the sky.
