A farewell letter from Bob Craig: As most of you will be aware, I - TopicsExpress

A farewell letter from Bob Craig: As most of you will be aware, I have only a few weeks left at Mooloolaba State School and this Wavelengths is probably one of the few opportunities left for me to express my thanks to all of our community for the support, co-operation and friendship that they have shared with me over the past 14 ½ years that I have been here. Mooloolaba State School is a great community and I have absolutely loved my time here as Deputy Principal. The students have been very hard-working and respectful to me. The teachers are some of the best I have ever worked with and the parent community has been caring, co-operative and supportive of me and the school staff. During the odd, few reflective moments over the past few months, I have been struck by how poignant a saying it is that ‘it takes a village to raise a child’. For me this is about how important relationships are in a school. Without the hard work of staff, then educating the students just doesn’t happen, but education is not the only thing that a school community does. Parents, other members of the community and students all work together with staff to set values, and provide role models how to relate to each other. Without all of these people co-operating and supporting each other, the community would be a poorer one than ours is. I have seen such communities in my career and I am so glad that I have been at Mooloolaba where the most important thing has been to build positive relationships with everyone. I couldn’t ask for a better community in which to end my teaching career. If I don’t see you personally then please accept my thanks for being a part of this “village”. It is this aspect that I will miss most. Things I won’t miss include having to be the grumpy bugger who slows students down, makes them put their hats on or tells them how to be respectful to teachers. I also won’t miss working in the rain at Working Bees but I will miss working with the parents and getting to know them a little bit more outside of school. I won’t miss the scrub turkeys that scrap all the bark off the gardens or the ibis that poo everywhere around the school. I won’t miss the late night or early morning phone calls from security to say an alarm has gone off again. Things I will miss include – School Discos, Beach Fun Runs, Athletics Days, Lip Sync, School Camps, the smiles on Preps and Grade 1 students when they get sent to the office to show me a great story or to read to me. I will also miss playing the King in the Yr 6 Medieval unit. I used to take great delight in sending some poor vassal to the stocks or dungeon. I will miss the end of Term slide shows, and drinks on Friday with Staff. I will miss the people and the relationships that we have built over these 14 years. Lastly, can I thank all of the members of the P&C with whom I have worked. The Presidents and Executive Members have been great – all working towards improving the school over the years. Andrew Preece, Mark Attwell, Deon, Briony and Mike thanks for your support. A special thanks to Ken Hindmarsh and his family. His expertise, and time have been fantastic and the school is much improved due to his support and input. Some of the improvements that have happened not because of me but during my time here – OHSC, the grounds and Gardens, the school oval, the Multi-purpose Tennis Courts, the Computer lab and T Block, Prep Modulars, Adventure Playgrounds (Prep, Grade 3-4 and Infants) the Hall, the Hall Stage, Janitor Groundsman’s Shed, A Block upgrade. Reading schemes, Interactive white boards and data projectors, ipads for teachers. All supported by P&C and using their expertise. Thank you. Bob Craig
