A few days ago I posted something in Spanish about worship, and the responses have been so many, and so engaging, that I have neglected those of my friends who dont know Spanish. Just got back from the last of three weekend sessions at Calvin Theological Seminary, teaching an intensive course for Latina/o pastors n the Grand Rapids area. Quite an interesting group. Almost 50 students, some of them with college degrees, and some with much less formal education. But all proven leaders. Of all sorts of denominations, but mostly Pentecostals. Their interesting in learning and in applying what they were learning to their own ministries was astonishing. Indeed, rather than interest I should say enthusiasm! I just wanted to take this opportunity to commend Calvin Seminary and its Professor of New Testament, Dr. Mariano Avila, for what is indeed a daring venture. And I also wish to say that what I find most encouraging in theological education in this country today is that more and more institutions are finding new ways to break out of the bounds of traditional practice, and make their resources available to a wider segment of our developing multicultural society.
