A few weeks ago I posted something about an Almond Tree. Well, here is the story behind it. Let us know what you think. An Almond tree is a symbol of abiding love and friendship. There has always been an association between the almond tree and themes of love, friendship & forgiveness. In Greek mythology the story Phyllis and Demophoon is closely associated with this tree. Phyllis was the Queen of Thrace who married her true love, Demophoon. Demophoon left Phyllis to visit Athens, promising to return in a month. When he did not return, Phyllis was so heart-broken, the gods took pity upon her and turned her into an almond tree. Eventually, Demophoon did return and found Phyllis, a leafless, brown, withering tree. He ran to the tree, clasped it to his chest in a loving embrace and it spontaneously burst into brilliant bloom. Phyllis transformed back into a Queen, and the almond tree became known as a symbol of true and inextinguishable love and forgiveness. In Ancient Rome, almonds were given as gifts at weddings, to wish the happy couple everlasting love, fertility and prosperity, a tradition that continues today in the form of colorful, candied almonds. There is an Almond tree in Key West, which has withstood the good times and the tough times. Most days in Key West are beautiful and sunny. On those days, this tree sways in the gentle breeze and provides shade for weary travelers. But this tree has also survived intense tropical storms, hurricanes, harsh winds & salt spray. Yet it persists. You can find this tree at the Key West Garden Club. #almondtree #greekmythology #keywestweddings #destinationweddings #keywestgardenclubweddings
