Following that success, last week the Kitimat City Council voted to oppose support for the same pipeline. However, the council is not rejecting future plans to move Alberta oil through the region, making the rejection a temporary fix. The Nobel Womens Initiative visited Kitimat in 2012 on the #BreakingGround delegation where women spoke about the detrimental effects of tar sands development on their communities.
