oh dont we look cute strippin’ down pride until we left in damn near our birthday suit & they love us with our heads hung low as our pants so we dare to salute With pants sagging like they’ve lacked the introduction of belts or old-fashioned home training...which makes sense because both are so damn obsolete but not the tempting desire to have things conveniently placed at our feet & some of us so tired of the bitter that we be easily seduced by the sweet and they make them things look so damn pretty despite the fact that the acts to maintain those desires be so damn gritty because like Future the Poet said, they know n*ggas will sell crack for a Benz before they ride the bus while they retire and then buy tons of empires and leave the crumbs just for us and we sho iz greedy our minds hold the tools to ultimately rule but we love to play needy so we constantly twerk while avoiding hard work because who would punch a clock & risk missing the latest rant on a Facebook post? Or we busy pouring out liquor or drowning fears in a Patron-filled toast I mean because we find so many reasons to celebrate in defeat And so many reasons to get all “iced out” when this life be bringing heat It’s like we love making noise when they got the spotlight on us But if we aint making Fox news or Worldstar jump, you won’t ever hear a fuss And the most interesting thing about this is, we have some amazing potential But it seems we avoid all things that are a positively influential Because there was a time when our Elders were the most valuable players in life’s cruel game When we would smile with a Mr. or Mrs. before we even spoke their name & then voluntarily sit for hours to learn lessons from those we always respected And hear a good word like this poem, and then we would actually digest it.
