A few years ago when I heard there was going to be a remake of STEEL MAGNOLIAS with an African American cast, I was really excited.... well, Im finally watching it (on Netflix) and Im wondering why they couldnt choose stronger actresses to play these parts.... I mean, I HATE Tyler Perry movies, but FOR COLORED GIRLS... was done really well and had some really good acting in it... Where were those actresses when this movie was being made? I know Phylicia Rashad was in it, but as a director, she is not a Clairee. Shes more a MLynn. I think Anika Noni Roses performance in Colored Girls was OUTSTANDING!!!!! SHE would have been the best choice for Shelby. Or even Annelle. IDK... this is a really terrible re-make. But I feel like Im comparing apples and oranges. I mean, when Carnage came out I loves everyone but Jodi Foster (I thought she SUCKED)... why?... Marsha Gay Harden was better... the cast in the original Steel Magnolias film was stronger. IDK.
