A future #Labour gov must hold a Public Inquiry into #SocialSecurity An article public statement by Respect For the Unemployed & Benefit Claimants We demand a #PublicInquiry be held within the first year in office of The Labour Party regarding the systematic abuse of #BenefitClaimants in regard to #workfare, #BenefitSanctions & #SanctionTargets. The remit of this public inquiry must look into the way disabled benefit claimants have been treated by the state & by the contractor Atos Origin. This inquiries remit must also look into the benefit rates for claimants - described as manifestly inadequate by the Council of Europe. The Department for Work and Pensions - DWP is a governmental department that is increasingly and inappropriately following the ideological welfare-cutting politics of secretary of state Iain Duncan Smith. The DWP are suppose to be bound by civil service standards of honesty, integrity and impartiality, but appears to be all to keen to tweet and send out press release from 10 Downing Street on the ongoing war on regarding claimants. Meanwhile the department is often being too busy to respond to criticisms or enquiries about the propriety and accuracy of its claims. The separation between government and civil service is a vital one. Governments come and go, but the civil service is permanent, and only works when it stands apart and acts as a bulwark against the worst excesses of politicians.
