A little inside Hollywood history just to understand exactly what kind of impact Robin Williams made into the television industry. Traditionally TV sitcoms were shot using what they call Multi-Cam setup which used to be 3 cameras (Generally one focused on each principal actor in the scene and then a 3rd for a wide shot). When Robin Williams was starring in Mork and Mindy in the 1970s, Director Gary Marshall realized they needed to add a 4th camera just to always catch Robin when he left his mark because he didnt want to miss any of the improv magic he was delivering at any given moment. They called this camera the Robin Cam. To this day almost all multi-cam sitcoms use the 4 camera set up (instead of 3) and it is common to hear that 4th camera referred to as The Robin Cam while on any television set today. Just something i wanted to share to show the impact the man truly made to an entire industry standard.
