A loss and a lesson This week I lost the most important and - TopicsExpress

A loss and a lesson This week I lost the most important and influential person in my life. My dad passed way suddenly on Thursday, without warning or indication that his health was in any way compromised. My dad was a real positive force of nature, he was the strongest, fittest person I knew, I always felt that my dad was bullet proof, invincible and would live forever. This dream, my dream of Rockstar Fitness would be nothing without his love, support and knowledge and I am truly thankful that he lived long enough to see something that I have spoken about for so long come into fruition. I don’t just write this weeks article as a way to vent my own grief or as a way to somehow remind myself of how great my dad is, I also write this weeks article as a way to instil a lesson and as a way to inspire people to make positive changes in their own lives and in doing so, touch many others to also do the same. When my dad fell it was instant, it looked as though someone greater than he, walked over and simply turned off a light switch. My dad was 62 and was active his entire life. What this reiterates to me is that life is all about numbers. You have people that are taken away too early and those that smoke, drink and eat everyday of their lives and live to 100. We simply do not know when our number is up. If life is all about how many grains of sand we have in our own hour glasses ,why waste each grain sitting in front of a TV gorging ourselves on food? Why choose to allow our bodies to breakdown slowly under the weight of our own inactivity. Why not strive to see what you are capable of? Run, jump, skip and lift! Take your body and do what it was put on this earth to do and use it as the awesome vehicle it is to inspire, motivate and enjoy time with others. Go for a walk or jog with the family pet or your own loved one and sit in a park on a sunny afternoon, invite friends out for a BBQ and play touch football, enroll in a dance class, take up archery or start up a workgroup group with your friends. Be better everyday! Be active and build memories that you can cherish for the rest of your life, don’t waste your life away sitting at a desk for 12hours a day, seven days a week. Don’t sit inside on weekends eating your weight in chocolate, cheese and Tim Tams. Im not saying don’t enjoy the little things and don’t indulge every once in a while. We use to tell my dad, don’t eat those chips or don’t drink that beer and he would simply laugh and say “you have to enjoy these things while you can”, and he was right, however as his eldest son my memories are not of my dad gorging himself in front of the TV whilst I played outside on my own My memories include my dad taking me down to the park to teach me how to perform a drop kick, my dad taking me running and showing me how fast he could run, taking me to the beach and lifting me over waves as they came in, teaching me how to swim, performing all the gardening at home on his home, moving the massive family fridge from one side of the room and back again because mum couldn’t decide which side was better, and training me in his passion which then became my passion, martial arts and kickboxing. This week I want to say don’t waste what you have been given. Even though we all may have a set amount of sand in the hour glass why tempt fate further by shaking the glass, eating fatty food day in and day out, not exercising, not knowing when to prioritize time just for you. Be better everyday and see what you are truly capable of. In memory of Terry Ly, respected a loved father and my hero. 20th February1953 - 14th August 2014
