It is alleged two men, armed with a firearm and knife, entered the club and threatened staff members. They were handed an amount of cash and fled in a blue Holden Commodore. No one was injured during the robbery. About 3pm, police were patrolling the suburb of Shortland when they saw a vehicle matching the description of the one allegedly involved in the earlier robbery. A pursuit was initiated, during which police deployed road spikes just north of the Hexham Bridge. The vehicle was later dumped on Scott Close at Raymond Terrace, with three men running from the scene. Police gave chase and arrested two of the men following a brief foot pursuit. They were taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station where one of them – an 18-year-old Raymond Terrace man – was charged in relation to the New Lambton armed robbery. The other man – a 22-year-old from Raymond Terrace – was charged with five counts of robbery whilst armed. The charges levelled against the 22 year old relate to the New Lambton armed robbery as well as similar offences at licensed premises, inclusing: - The armed robbery of a pub in Tarro on 2 April 2014; - The armed robbery of a pub in Shortland on 6 April 2014; - The armed robbery of a pub in Medowie on 10 April 2014; and, - The armed robbery of a pub in Tenambit on 14 April 2014. Both men were refused bail and are scheduled to appear in Raymond Terrace Local Court today (Tuesday 22 April 2014).
