A member of Colorados state Board of Education argued that the fact that the United States voluntarily ended slavery proved American execptionalism and this perspective should be taught to students in a recent Facebook post about the AP U.S. History curriculum. A few other proofs of American Exceptionalism: 1. The US resolved the problems connected with Native Americans occupying too much territory in an exceptional manner by having them voluntarily relocate to things called reservations. 2. During WWII, the US resolved the security problems presented by having American citizens of Japanese ancestry living too near the Pacific coast by moving them in an exceptional and voluntary manner to things called concentration camps. 3. The US settled the challenges that prevented people of color from being integrated into American society by imposing on them exceptionally effective Jim Crow laws for many years and then, in yet another example of exceptionalism, opened its arms widely and voluntarily to them during the 1950s and 1960s as they fought for civil and voting rights. 4. The US exceptonally handled a long series of foreign policy challenges by voluntarily invading an exceptional group of countries known as Mexico, Cuba, the Phillipines, Mexico, again, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Colombia/Panama, the Dominican Republic,Vietnam, Iraq, Iraq, again, Lybia, Iraq, for a third time, and Syria. Our exceptionalism is exceptionally exceptional and should be taught only in truly exceptional history courses by very exceptional teachers using wonderfully exceptional curricula mandated by highly exceptional Boards of Education in that most exceptionally exceptional country, the United States of America. - Harris Lirtzman
