A most curious collection of dendrophilic (tree-loving) expressions emerged on our hike Saturday at Southford Falls State Park. So crowded with families of Leaf Peepers that we were forced to park the big red bus at a nearby parking spot and hoof it in to the park entrance. Steeped in industrial history, Mr. Piazza pointed out covered bridges and ruins of the original Diamond Match Company along the Eight Mile River. The Outdoor Ed. team quickly climbed through boulder-strewn beech forests to the fire tower at the top. A slurry of excellent tree puns emerged from Jake Sternberg and Mr. Piazza during the descent, lightening the mood into a spontaneous tree-hugging session by Liam, Warren, Baras, Nicholas, and Nick. -Mr. Herbert
