A highly distinguished commander of the English Lancastrian cause in France, Talbot was killed at the Battle of Castillon, 17th July 1453 in Gascony. With his death came the English armies defeat in the field by the superior forces of Charles VII. The aftermath of the battle marked the end of English occupation and loss of all territories - barring Calais - on mainland France.
