A pair of rush hours every day rapidly change the way tissues - TopicsExpress

A pair of rush hours every day rapidly change the way tissues throughout the body work, scientists have discovered. The animal study, in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, monitored the function of cells, in 12 tissues, through the day. It found large shifts in activity just before dawn and dusk. BBC News report says experts said the findings could help time medication to hit sweet-spots in the body clock. The bodys internal clock is known to drive huge changes - it alters alertness, mood, physical strength and even the risk of a heart attack in a daily rhythm. The Food Doctor says exactly why we sleep is still not fully understood. However, what is known is that without enough shut eye our health begins to deteriorate, and for those that are unlucky enough to suffer from chronic insomnia, this can lead to years of misery and poor health. This latest research is one more piece in the jigsaw, helping us build up a better picture of what may have an influence upon our sleep ability and pattern. There are likely to be a whole host of reasons why a person is having trouble sleeping. If you are having a few problems, there are a number of things that can be done to diet and lifestyle that can help you drop off. Here is one... Cut out the caffeine Any drink with caffeine in has a stimulating effect on the body. It triggers the release of stress hormones, such as adrenalin and cortisol, which leave us feeling wide awake and unable to sleep. As caffeine can effect us for up to 10 hours, having a cup of coffee during the late afternoon and evening makes it harder for our bodies to relax and prepare for sleep. Although the research can tell a different story every time, aiming for one cup of coffee or tea a day, and having that earlier on is ideal. This gives your body enough time to dispose of the caffeine and leaves you able to sleep. Rather than just cutting it out completely, aim to phase it out. For some people, going cold turkey can cause some really unpleasant side effects. Cut down by one cup every few days, replacing it with a caffeine free alternative, such as redbush tea, dandelion coffee or fruit and herbal teas instead.
