A parent asks our group: I have an almost 10 year old high functioning autistic son who also has spd. He will only wear long pants, a t-shirt with a sweatshirt over the top and boots. He refuses to wear shorts, tennis shoes, sandals of any kind and refuses to remove his sweatshirt. With summer approaching and it being very hot where we live it is a constant battle to get him to wear comfortable summer time clothes because he is so set on what he has worn for the past 6 years. He gets to the point he wont go outside ( due to heat, not wanting to change into proper summer clothes and other sensory issues he has such as grass, allergens and water -sprinklers, pools, etc). He is also Hitting early stages of puberty refuses to wear deodorant and so aside from being over heated, he also gets smelly. Blankets are also an issue at night, he needs 4 fleece blankets to be happy and hates the feeling of a fan next to his bed and I am unable to afford a weighted blanket Does anyone have any suggestions on how to help him get through this summer to keep cool?
