A parent asks our group: I saw a post on here about repeating & it got me thinking. My son does the verbal stimming, echolalia, repeating of questions, lines from movies, books & repeatedly recalling life experiences like outings & events. He does this randomly but also inappropriately (out of context) conversationally in social situations. My question is, where is the line between this strictly being spd & considering the social aspect of it as asd? He is diagnosed with spd only at this point but I know the evals say exhibits signs of asd & they would like to continue watching to see if those become more definitive. He also shows symptoms of pragmatic language deficit & has some repetitive movements & behaviors. How do you distinguish between asd behaviors being sensory related or just asd?
