A patient who has been experiencing slight pins and needles in his leg for years saw a renowned surgeon for advice. An MRI was ordered and the patient was found to have minimal disc bulge in his lower back. However, the surgeon recommended a disc surgery on the following day. Surprised by the “urgency” and a five-digit price tag, he decided to seek a second opinion. A relative who has sought chiropractic treatment at our office prompted him to come in for treatment and he did. Mr P’s first visit ended on a promising note, as he was able to feel some changes going on in his lower back immediately after the first adjustment on his spine. He wore a huge smile on his return visit and reported that the pins and needles in his leg and a knee pain that had been bothering him on the opposite side (which he did not report) for years was almost gone as he walked out of our office. Mr P shared that he did not understand how his knee felt better even though no treatment was rendered to it. Indeed, it can be quite puzzling to some that the painful areas need not coincide with the source of spinal misalignments. It is not uncommon clinically to observe that discomforts in joints and muscles are often compensations of spinal misalignments elsewhere. A patient can have a neck pain and the source of the problem can be in the lower back, causing over-compensation higher up in the spine. Which explains why it makes sense to get to the root cause of one’s problem and not merely chasing and treating symptoms. As in Mr P’s case, many would choose to treat his knee directly and miss the lower back issues. Not only will this not help but also his lower back issues can continue to get worse to require surgery in time to come. Chiropractic has been known to treat the root cause of problems. Though it usually takes longer time to “feel better”, a person always heals better. Afterall, chiropractic is not designed to help one feel better immediately. Chiropractic is designed to help one heal better immediately. At least, that’s the focus at our office – to help one heal better, and not just feel better. Give us a call at 63367714 to find out how we can help you or your loved ones to start healing.
