A perfect warm and breezy afternoon. Down on Castro Street those orange barricades that have protected (and annoyed) us for months during sidewalk reconstruction are now protecting images of deceased LGBT heroes. They will be unveiled on Tuesday at the launch of the Rainbow Honor Walk. Through the plastic covers I spotted tantalizing fragments of Yukio Mishima, Del Martin, Randy Shilts, Frida Kahlo, Harry Hay, Alan Turing, Keith Haring and Christine Jorgenson. Totally thrilling, and the design is perfect, since you can see their proud faces, which is the whole point. Many thanks to David Perry for the twenty years he spent making this happen.
