A sense of peace and renewal. Every year, there is one day, when I wake up in Paris, and walk across a bridge over the Seine, and the light, the warmth of the air, and a serene mood speaks to me, and tells me that spring has arrived, and life has so much to offer ahead. I spent a wonderful week at my home in Paris, and will leave later today, on my way to Cuba next week, after stopping in New York. This will be my 13th trip to Cuba in three years, and I am very excited about the work I am doing there on a new book to be called, Cuba-A Grace of Spirit. My experience in self-publishing with French Kiss-A Love Letter to Paris has been wonderful, with 2,350 copies sold in less than 4 months. I am hopeful that the first edition of 3,000 copies will be sold out within this first year. With all of the ups and downs of our profession, it is such an exciting time to be able to connect directly with so many people worldwide, here on Facebook, through emails, and other opportunities to publish on the internet, and through ones own books-to wake up each morning and have a sense that ones desire to share visual storytelling and ones own life stories, to allow photography to help offer a sense of purpose in ones life, offering meaning through sharing-this is all part of this morning of spring renewal for my sense of hope and joy. And, more important than all, is the vast mystery and marvel of life that is all around us each day-with the challenges part of the excitement of the process as much as all that goes well. This past week, I had lunch with my good friend John Morris, who is now 98. He has lived and experienced almost a century of life, and I can not tell you how much his example of passion and curiosity for what life offers, inspires me. The flame of light in the sparkle in his eyes and smile is a gift to us all and so contagious. On this Sunday, I send love to all here, and hope that we can all go forward grasping on to the light of opportunity of this morning of spring and renewal. © Peter Turnley, Paris.
