A series of massive scorelines against Super Premier sides has further dented the image of football in the country. Yesterday, fans witnessed Suva thrashed Tavua 15-0 in their Fiji Sun/GP Batteries National Football League match at the ANZ Stadium. Football fans and football administrators have debated on the right format to adopt to avoid one-sided matches Former Rewa Football president, Pranil Singh says this is the sad day for soccer in Fiji. “This massive scoreline shouldn’t be expected from a Super Premier team and this is really a sad reflection of the development of football by Fiji Football (Fiji FA) development officers,” Singh said. “The massive scorelines have now become a trend in the competition, which is a concern. “It’s not good when we look at this season’s NFL, teams like Tavua and Savusavu continue to get massive scorelines of 11,13 and in yesterday’s game 15 goals conceded by Tavua against Suva is shameful.” Singh has also voiced his disappointment with district administrators. “They (district football administrators) are also responsible for such football chaos. “When Fiji FA wants to do improvements in the development of football, some of the district football administrators are against development. “There was a proposal two to three years back to change the league structure where we have top eight ottom place team to be demoted directly at the end of the competition. “Some of the district football administrators have opposed this and that is why some of these teams like Tavua and Savusavu are struggling.” Suva’s massive win has strengthened the capital city side’s chances of playing in the OFC Champions League for the first time with a better goal difference. Nadi, also on 34 points, has slipped to third position. Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel said they would look into the issue in their meeting. “We will definitely look into this issue during our next meeting,” Patel said. Some of soccer fans yesterday at the ANZ Stadium yesterday described performance as pathetic and says that top division shouldn’t be fit to play at this level if they can’t perform. Suva captain Samuela Drudru netted nine goals in Suva’s massive win. Suva coach Gurjit Singh said they didn’t expect Tavua to concede so many goals. “This massive win has increased our chances of playing in the OFC Champions League,” Singh said. Suva plays Rewa on Thursday at 7pm at the ANZ Stadium and Design Engineering Lautoka on Sunday at 3pm at the ANZ Stadium and a win and a draw in these two games will secure Suva their first OFC Champions League berth. Fulltime: Suva 15 Tavua 0
