A side of Joan Rivers you probably didnt expect. Here, verbatim, is a thank you letter she wrote to me July 29, 1975: Dear Mr. Simon, Thank you so very much for your wonderful (underlined) review that appeared in the News on June 17, 1975. It always makes a performer very, very happy to know that somebody bright and intelligent out there likes him and is able to pick up on what he is doing--or trying to do--from stage. Since we left Buffalo, John (Davidson) and I have been practically all over the Eastern Seaboard (Albany, Washington, Baltimore, Cohasset) but of all the good reviews that we have received--and Im not just saying this--yours still stands out as the nicest of the summer. So next time I play Buffalo, please come back personally and say hello. It would be a pleasure to meet you. I hope you have a lovely summer and, again, thank you very much. Most Sincerely, Joan Rivers. Alas we never did meet, backstage or anywhere else. But the pleasure of catching her act at that relatively early moment--and Im not just saying this--was all mine.
