A substantial amount of the worlds scientific research is funded by the military. In America, most scientific research is paid for by the federal government, and over half of that funding comes from the Department of Defense. This saddens me. I wish we lived in a culture where scientific research was primarily sponsored by civilian interests. Bu the fact that scientific research is so thoroughly imprinted by military intentions does not sour me on the scientific method itself. In fact, the scientific method is a central part of my approach to understanding reality. Likewise, I draw inspiration from the life and teachings of Christ, even though I dont belong to a church, am not a Christian, and am distraught about the cultural devastation wrought by the Christian fundamentalist mind-set.
