A sudden and recent change in Policy by the Department of Community Services here in Nova Scotia whereby they have now forbidden unfettered access by Foster Children to all information pertaining to their histories. Both Deputy Minister and Director, in my meeting last week, indicated that legislative Changes were not needed to do so. Since that meeting I have found out otherwise. The Privacy Commisioner here has slammed the Deparment for their flagrant disregard of lawful procedure ( yes..I am an expert at reading between the lines...I have spent 25 years at perfecting that craft). The Departments own advisory committees recommendations to the Department regarding openning up Adoption Records in Nova Scotia have been completely ignored and hence summarily cast aside. Both the Premier and Minister of Community Services have made it quite clear that they are unwilling to meet with me or the press to provide any explanation around these issues. We dont see that as being transparent at all. Apparently the present Nova Scotia government see themselves as being above the law. But I will bet you one thing...that they are actually scared shitless as to the outcome of the present class-action lawsuit in Ontario. If they arent....they should be and so should the Department of Justice.... Just sayin.... Oh but what I could tell you....
