A tip or two for those of you who deal with street dogs or dogs that are potentially dangerous, like we do. A good technique that we utilize is hand feeding. Every dog that is new to our pack, starts out in a separate area from the rest of the pack and gets hand fed for at least the first couple of days. The purpose of isolating and hand feeding is to force the new dog to bond to us as handlers. A dog that is totally reliant upon you and trusts you as their pack leader is not likely to attack you. How soon a dog comes into the pack depends upon our assessment of their body language. So Dresden, shown above showed no signs of aggression or prey drive, he came into the pack very quickly. We could tell that he would be safe with the other dogs, because he kept his tail in the middle and rolled over.....which is a sign of submission.
