A useful piece from Joe Carter, with some important corrections - TopicsExpress

A useful piece from Joe Carter, with some important corrections and clarifications courtesy of David AJ Reynolds: 1.) The article botches the admittedly complicated series of events that led to the Hamas takeover in Gaza. To cut a long story short, while Hamas did briefly control a cabinet of the PA under the Presidency of Fatahs Abbas, that had since been replaced by a Fatah/Hamas unity government, before Hamas seized control of Gaza by force in a bloody civil war in 2007, resulting in the annihilation of Fatah in Gaza. 2.) I think it is misleading to say that Hamas considers nationalism part of its religious belief. (despite the fact that this wording comes from an english translation of the Hamas Covenant) because what we think of as nationalism and what Hamas thinks of it are dramatically different. And this difference is also one of the things that makes Hamas both so dangerous and different from Fatah. Unlike Fatah, which maintains at least the appearance that it is merely interested in national self-determination for Palestinians and is supposedly happy with the so-called occupied territories, Hamas demands all of Israel not because it is rightfully a Palestinian nation-state, but because it is rightfully Muslim land (or waqf - once conquered and ruled by Muslims, it is Muslim land until the end of time). Nationalism and nation-states are beside the point in Hamas orthodox Islamic conception. It is the homeland of the Palestinian people not because of ethnicity, but mostly because the Palestinian people are Muslim and this is all Muslim land. So, for example, Hamas co-founder Zahar said: Islamic and traditional views reject the notion of establishing an independent Palestinian state … our main goal is to establish a great Islamic state. Hamas goal is not a nation-state for Palestinians, but to see Israel incorporated into a supra-national Islamic caliphate. 3.) I dont understand why, when stating the fact thast Hamas uses its own people as human shields and before citing corroboration, he says Israel claims.... This is a demonstrable fact and not something Hamas has tried particularly hard to cover-up, which makes the medias reticence about it all the more baffling. 4.) The piece rather ignores the fact Hamas is genocidal against Jews because Islam is. The second half of the ninth point is a quote from the hadith - a vast collection of supposed sayings from the Prophet - which are equal in status to the Quran.
