A week ago, an emaciated and very pregnant kitty gave birth to 8 kittens at the shelter and came to stay with me. Within 36 hours mama kitty was extremely sick and stopped eating. Fast forward through a horrific sleepless 5 days of administering fluids, pain meds, antibiotics, a temp of 104.4, bottle feeding 8 starving newborns and constant prayers for her and the babies to survive, mama kitty has turned the corner and has started to eat. We were so fortunate to find a surrogate mama for 4 of the kittens to reduce the physical stress so mama and the other 4 kittens could have a better chance of survival. I havent seen a kitty this emaciated since I rescued my Annie 12 years ago. It makes me cry to feel every protruding bone when I give fluids and meds or just love on her. Youre probably wondering where Im going with this. SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR PETS AND KEEP YOUR CATS INSIDE YOUR HOME! Theyre NOT better off running around loose outside. This didnt have to happen to this sweet kitty who obviously was someones pet at one time. She and her 8 babies almost died because her irresponsible owner didnt spay her and let her go outside. She has a scarred and misshapen eye as the result of an injury from a fight. Shes emaciated from not having access to food. Shes a total love who has allowed me to stick her with needles trying desperately to keep her alive. Im REALLY angry - FOR HER and all animals like her. All animals deserve better than she got and I thank God that shes here with me and will eventually find a wonderful home. The babies are all sick with a URI and at 7 days old, their survival is in jeopardy. Cmon people! Its not that difficult to spay and neuter. Keep your animals inside your homes or on a leash when outside. This happens far too often and Im burning mad. Rant over. Thanks for reading this.
