A weeks ago I stopped in to see my good friend and owner of my camera shop in Princeton, New Jersey, where I had the opportunity to play with and use two new fabulous lenses from Sigma! The lenses are the new Sigma 50mm f/1.4 & 35mm f/1.4 Art Lens. The camera that I tested them on was the 36 MP Nikon D800 for maximum resolution. First let me say that both of these lenses are without question the top lenses in their class regardless of price... and I say this with complete confidence. I simply dont use the 35mm focal wife enough to justify replacing my Nikon 35mm f/2 AF-D, which though not as good as this new Sigma Art Lens, is still a magnificent lens, and more than adequate for my needs. The Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art Lens is hands-down the best 50mm lens in the world... even better than the legendary Zeiss 55mm f/1.4 Otus. And considering that Zeiss Otus lens costs over $4,000 and the Sigma $900, makes the Sigma all the more amazing. However $900 is nothing to sneeze at. And yes Sigma, is a better built and a better optical performer when did my Nikon 50 mm f/1.4, but its not an earth shaking difference, and certainly not $900 more performance. Anyway my conclusion is these are both fabulous lens, and both are certainly top-dog in their class, regardless of price as I said earlier... but Ill be keeping my Nikon lenses at least for now, because I simply cant justify the expense for the work I do with these focal lengths. But when I open my portrait studio in Puerto Rico, then I will reconsider... and most likely would get at least a 50mm Art Lens. Images Taken From Net... source unknown.
