AAP statement on Rakesh Aggarwal - At the outset, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) wants to clear that Rakesh Agarwal, whose name has figured in some reports pointing fingers at the party functioning, is not a member of any committee or functioning body in the party. He has never been part of party’s any decision making body. He had only approached AAP earlier this year during the time of a rally of auto rickshaw drivers at Ramlila Maidan. When AAP took part in the rally of auto rickshaw drivers at Ramlila Maidan, thousands of auto rickshaw drivers approached Arvind Kejriwal and other AAP leaders asking them not to keep any contact with Rakesh Agarwal. They clearly told AAP that they support AAP but don’t want to be with Rakesh Agarwal. We want to categorically state that he has never been part of any committee of body of AAP. He has been quoted as secretary of a NGO called Nyayabhoomi. However, according to Lt Colonel (Retd.) B Sharan, who is President of Nyayabhoomi has clarified that Rakesh Agarwal is a fraudster who has embezzled funds of his NGO and is already facing several cases of fraud in Delhi courts. According to Lt Colonel (Retd.) Sharan, NGO Nyayabhoomi (2003) that he founded was formed for working on governance issues. But during 2003-08, Rakesh Agarwal, while working as NGO’s secretary, duped thousands of auto rickshaw drivers on pretext of getting them clearances from Delhi transport authority to the tune of several lakhs. Auto drivers complained against him. When Nyayabhoomi executive committee questioned him and asked for accounts but he refused. Following this, the executive committee of Nyayabhoomi in April 2008 unanimously expelled him. But he continued using Nyayabhoomi’s name. The NGO then filed a case in Tis Hazari court to make him stop using Nyayabhoomi’s name. They also filed a case in Patiala House courts against him for fraud and embezzlement of funds of NGO. As per Lt Colonel (Retd.) Sharan, Rakesh Agarwal then started defaming him similar to the way he is targeting AAP. After this colonel Sharan filed a defamation suit in Patiala House court. Meanwhile, Rakesh Agarwal had filed a writ petition for some issues related to auto rickshaw drivers in Delhi high Court posing as Nyayabhoomi’s secretary. But when Lt Colonel (Retd.) Sharan approached court and told it the truth, Rakesh Agarwal was fined of Rs 5,000 by court and his writ was dismissed. Aam Aadmi Party once again clarifies that Rakesh Agarwal has not been in AAP’s any decision making body or committee. He has not been part of any decision making body. He is not even member of Nyayabhoomi and is instead facing cases from the NGO itself. He could be working on directions of anyone else. Jai Bharat
