ABABU FOR SEC GENERAL YES, BUT NOT ON A SILVER PLATTER! I am happy to write to you once again. Am sure you will appreciate the fact that on 28/08/2014, I strongly wrote and defended you when your political adversaries had strategized to kick you out of the ODM party on pretense that you were a jubilee mole from within. I think they were doing so to block you from becoming the secretary general of the party if fresh elections were to be called following the disruption of same by the men in black at the Kasarani International Stadium. The men in black were deliberately put there to deter you from ascending power by the old guard. Following this misbehavior, you began talking tough in defense of your character and consciousness. Your actions made many people to believe you were on the way out. When I write this letter, it is important for you to know that I have nothing sinister whatsoever in my heart against Raila Odinga in handing power to you through the back door, “kitchen cabinet”. However, as a democrat who loves justice and fairness, I wish to put it to you that this is not the best way of doing things in a liberal democratic institution. Bw. Ababu, you and Anyang’ Nyongo have always written thrilling articles in which you have never missed to utter any of the following words associated with liberal democracy and in so far as the leadership you have always craved for in Kenya is concerned – “justice and fairness, telling the truth, rational choices, politics of inclusiveness, legitimate power, the popular will of the people, equality, inequality of opportunity, liberty, fraternity, moral institutions, transparency and accountability, autonomy, reason, manipulation, patron clientism, dictatorship or arbitrary exercise of power”. The point am making here is that, if you are not careful, history will judge you very harshly especially if you accept to be given leadership on a silver plate without passing through protocol and the democratic processes of the party which amongst other things you have preached. Borrowing from your beliefs, if justice is seen to protect the people’s interest as you always say, then you should know that the party members will only be happy if they chose their leader in an open election process. The issue is that the party leader has no locus standi to make binding decisions on the party about who should be leaders since that position is a preserve of the members. It is not fair for a few people to sit in a room somewhere and make binding decisions on behalf of the majority party members who have gone to school and know their freedoms and rights. The most important fact which I must share with you is that the ODM party was founded on the values of liberal democracy hence those values cannot be set aside when choosing leaders neither can they be set aside for the benefit of certain individuals loyal to the party leader as that will amount to dictatorship and abuse of the rule of law to which you have always insinuated as a protector and defender.
