Office of Tax Revenue issued proposed regulations to implement a new sales tax recently passed by the City Council, including the so-called “yoga tax.” We’re calling on the Washington-area yoga community to communicate to D.C. regulators that the District’s tax on health clubs should not apply to yoga because yoga is far more than just physical exercise. Owners/operators of yoga studios in Washington, D.C. will be forced to charge the sales tax if the proposed rules enter into effect.
