***** ACTUAL CONVERSATION at ST FRANCIS **** Me: Can I help you? Her: Yes, my husband is in the car. I need a wheelchair. He cannot walk or breathe! Me: Okay, let me get someone right away Her: Please, thank you (Two nurses and I go outside. As we attempt to get him out of the car he gets aggravated) Him: Step back! I can do it myself Her: Please let them do it. You cant walk Him: I can so, I just cant breathe (He gets out of the he car and into a wheelchair.) Me: Arw you okay? Him: Yes but I cant breathe Me: When did this start? Him: This morning about 10 Me: You havent been able to breathe for over 12 hours? Him: Thats right Me: Sir, youre breathing right now Him: Thats just to answer your stupid questions Me: I see. So who was asking you stupid questions for the last 14 1/2 hours? (Painfully awkward silence) Him: I dont wanna talk anymore! Just get me a doctor Me: As soon as the nurse sees you in triage Him: How long will that take? Me: Dont worry, they ask a lot of questions, youll be just fine. Shouldnt be too long Him: Yeah right. I wont hold my breath (WHAT THEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE?)
