AFN, Channels Partner For Classics In continuation of its trailblazing efforts in talent discovery and youth development, the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has teamed up with Channels Television towards staging a major zonal championship aimed at identifying trainable youngsters from all across the country. A statement by AFN’s media officer, Olukayode Thomas said the proposed zonal championship, which will be officially known as Channels TV Athletics Classics, is the vision of the proprietor of Channels Television, John Momoh. Thomas disclosed further that the championship will start at state levels, where athletes will compete to represent their areas in all six geo-political zones of the country. Thomas says the championship is open to secondary school students in all 36 states of the federation and the FCT, from which winners at the zonal level will then compete at the national finals. On his part, AFN president, Evangelist Solomon Ogba said: “This championship is national and will give opportunity to young trainable athletes who will be trained to become world beaters in a few years. “The credit will go to Mr. Momoh and Channels TV for giving this opportunity to young athletes. We are grateful to Mr Momoh. He started with football, now he is embracing athletics.”
