ALS truly is a devastating disease. My father had it. He did not - TopicsExpress

ALS truly is a devastating disease. My father had it. He did not die from the disease per se, but from complications of surgery after he had a PEG tube placed to feed him through when he was no longer able to swallow food. But actually, I fully believe that he he died because he lost the will to live, knowing what he was facing for the remainder of his life. Knowing that he would eventually become fully dependent on others for his basic needs was just something he was not able to bear. His death at such an early age (he was 60--just 5 years older than I am now) was truly a blessing for him, and for my mother too. But it was very sad.
