AMAZING DANCE OPPORTUNITY: Jean Appolon Summer Dance Today, some of the girls, namely Nephtalie, Jennifer, Junia and Shara had a chance to experience something extraordinary. They attended an OPEN AUDITION held at the Oloffson Hotel for the JEAN APPOLON Summer Dance Institute to be held for 4 weeks in July. JEAN APPOLON is a Haitian dancer who’s dance company Jean Appolon Expressions (JAE) is a contemporary dance company combining Modern technique, Haitian folkloric dance and live traditional drumming. We are SO incredibly excited to tell you that ALL of our GIRLS were selected to participate!! Simply translated this means that these girls will be attending 4 weeks of HAITIAN FOLKLORIC DANCE from 9am until 4pm everyday! MIND YOU, this is not a simple task. It will require each of the girls leaving their homes at 7am, as the commute to the Oloffson Hotel requires 2 tap tap rides and a taxi and could take anywhere from 1.5 to 2 hours. AND as Jean is a great master of DANCE, so too is he of discipline, so this means coming on time. And as anyone who knows Haitians, they have their own way with time. So we will see what transpires. In the meantime, we could not be more excited. Witnessing the girls today, in the company of this great DANCE MASTER and close to 100 dancers, I will admit— gave me chills. These particular girls are at a real crossroads in their lives— and this opportunity could be something unbelievably important for them and could lead them down a beautiful path. BRAVO girls!
