AMEN!! Ive found this process so enlightening and empowering. I wish Id known as much with Toby as I do now, mightve avoided post natal depression completely. I wish more women realised that by having as natural a birth as possible they too can avoid PND. The second midwives start pumping synthetic hormones into you, youre at risk because PND is caused by unbalanced hormones. More women should be told this. If they were I bet wed see the rate of C-sections (planned and emergency) drop, along with the rate of PND while the rate of beautiful, calm babies who thrive because their mothers can properly breastfeed will increase. The fact is every woman CAN breastfeed, but the circumstances surrounding the birth of her baby combined with the support shes given often mean her body stops working in quite the right way so she stops. Hormones (natural) are so incredibly important in this process, God given abilities are reduced to a bunch of strangers deciding what the woman is and isnt capable of. How many times have I heard the words thats if they LET you reach 42 weeks no love, its if I LET THEM interfere and destroy all my hard work. Just from a week of practising my relaxation techniques and telling myself over and over that birth does not have to hurt, my body is perfectly capable, its done it once, it can do it again and avoiding birth horror stories (sorry if Ive got up and walked away from you) Ive noticed a shift in my thinking. Before I believed it but a little piece of me, a little dark hole of a black voice was niggling in my ear filling my head with this is nonsense, you cant do it etc etc. This week everytime that little black voice comes back, I seem to be able to shut it off completely. Ill tell you what, when this hypnobirthing nonsense works for me, Im gonna train in it so I can teach it myself. Im now so passionate about it I want all vulnerable women who are deep down scared of labour and birth to know it simply does not have to be that way and by following this path they can have the birth I will. Who could be more effective than a woman who has done it?!
