AMERICA’S BIGGEST PROBLEM IS WASHINGTON’S ABILITY TO CREATE - TopicsExpress

AMERICA’S BIGGEST PROBLEM IS WASHINGTON’S ABILITY TO CREATE REALITY It is, admittedly, presumptuous on my part to state what Washington’s biggest problem is, since one would think you have to place into competition, Congress, President Obama, and the Supreme Court. And, to be sure, when placing these institutionalized problems into the mix, to determine which of the fore-mentioned parties, in Washington, deserves first prize in the biggest problem category, the only answer that is transparent, to the naked eye, is that “biggest” in this case is a tossup. Recognizing the limitations placed upon our human capacities to make such a distinction, when the parties are so evenly matched, each representing the equivalent of a WMD (Weapon of Mass Destruction), I am certainly willing to yield to a higher source, on such matters of complexity, as they did in ancient times. So, let me seek intervention from the gods, in the same manner as the ancient Greeks did when they took difficult questions to the Oracles of Delphi: “Mirror, mirror, on the wall, which of the above-mentioned parties is the fairest of them all?” The envelope has been opened. The answer is, “Are you kidding?!” I think the answer, above, which is in the form of a question (in keeping with requirements of the television game show, “Jeopardy,”) means that it depends on the day, and on the issue, given that either party, depending, oftentimes, on whether, or not, there was a full moon, the night before, is capable of striking, at any time, on any given day. But really these political versions of “The Supremes,” are only symptoms, inheritors, custodians, carriers, of Washington’s biggest problem, which is the belief by politicians, in the nation’s capital, that they can alter, and even create, reality. If someone is trying to blow us up, for example, presto, the politicians in Washington create a new agency, Homeland Security, and we become more secure, instantly. And the military, of course, is just in the way, which is why politicians cut the defense budget because our homeland is being secured by government bureaucracy. What does love of the military “got to do with it, do with it,” if I might use some of the words from the song by one of Oprah Winfrey’s friends, Tina Turner, who is over there in Switzerland, the country that wouldn’t sell Oprah Winfrey a $38,000 purse. One can’t help but wonder, given the newly created Homeland Security agency, why Oprah Winfrey did not just stay home, so she could be protected from these brutes. President Bush, who preceded Obama as a weapon of mass destruction, signed into law, the Patriot Act, in 2001. Now did we see more patriots after the act was passed? Of course we did, except for people like the two bombers in Boston, who, apparently, didn’t read the bill, even after it was passed, in order for them to see what was in it. And you have to wonder how the country even managed to survive all these years, since 1776, since the country was only authorized to defend itself, with passage of the National Defense Authorization Act. Before that, the military was laying up in barracks, twiddling its thumbs. In 2012, the American people were terrified of Republicans, believing that these hateful people (there are no “haters” who are Democrats) wanted to throw granny over a cliff, with the commercial, which carried this message, assuming we understood that granddad had already been killed because there was no Obamacare. How, one might ask, did the politicians in Washington create this reality? OK, it is a question that I might ask. The answer is simple. One February 21, 2010, Congress passed a bill, which has been termed “Obamacare.” The bill is really titled, “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act,” signed into law by Obama, February 23, 2010. There was not a single Republican in Congress who voted for the bill, when it was passed by Congress two days earlier. Does the law make healthcare more affordable? Nope. Well, does the act make protection of patients more likely? Nope. Well, who is throwing grandma from the train, then? The Democrats are the culprits. So, why are the Republicans being marinated upon, for it? Because the bill, which says politicians care about our health, has the Democratic Party’s name on it. Well, does that mean, then, that the Republican Party cares more about our health than the Democrats? Nope. Neither party cares. Both have ushered us into the “Twilight Zone.” Let’s get back to reality. Yesterday, the Senate took into consideration the bill passed by the House, which funds the federal government, minus Obamacare. Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid, plunged this September, and, unfortunately, the rest of the year, body, into debate over the House’s proposed legislation to fund the government, while cutting off money for the new health-care law. As was to be expected, both Republicans, and Democrats, ended up accusing each other of threatening to bring about a government shutdown. Both sides, of course, in “Amos N’ Andy” fashion, not only denied the allegation, but defied the alligator. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.), whose synapses, are constantly on vacation, opened debate by denouncing the bill that was passed by the House, on Friday, passed by Republicans after House Speaker, John Boehner, stopped crying long enough to actually show some leadership. The legislation, really, is a result of the victorious campaign, by conservatives, outside of Washington, who were able to holler loud enough to stop Republicans, in Washington, from acting like Democrats. They were finally able to get Boehner, and the rest of that gang, to do something meaningful about “Obamacare,” defund it as this disastrous healthcare law is presently written. But leave it to Reid to see it as another bombing of Pearl Harbor. It’s that reality thing again. Here’s what Reid had to say, please brace for the following public service announcement: “Inside the House Republican bubble, the crowd cheered a plan to deny health insurance to tens of millions of Americans or else shut down the government. President Obama has been clear. I have been clear. Any bill that defunds Obamacare is dead on arrival in the Senate.’’ It matters not that the bill, passed by the House, funds everything else in the government, except “Obamacare.” if this train wreck is not included, and the government is shut down, it means the Republicans, whose bill funds the government, except for Obamacare, is the blame, not the Democrats. If the above is not enough to convince you of Washington’s ability to create reality, then, it probably means only Houdini would be able to impress you. It seems clear, however, that America’s biggest problem, with Washington, its ability create reality, is about to take center stage, again, if an agreement is not reached between the two sides on “Obamacare,” and a government shutdown results.
