AN ADVICE TO MSSN LEADERSHIP** Sirajudeen Abdulazeez Folayemi* (Safar, 1435AH) Bismillah Ar-Rahmaani Ar-Raheem, wa salla llahu ala muhammadin waalaa ahlihi wa sahbihi wa sallim, wa bad. Brothers and sisters in this blessed society may the peace mercy and blessing of Allah be with each and every one of us, permit me to give out this pieces of advice. 1. MSSN is a confirmed dawah organization/ society/movement, and there is nothing wrong about people coming together to enjoy what is good and forbidden what is wrong, because this is the Sunnah of Allah and His Prophet Allah will always assist and bless a joint good effort taking in His path. 2. Anybody who holds the view that organization with or without name is bidiatu sayyiah (la- jamaaat idea), then I want to postulate that he should honorably resign his membership of MSSN; this is because his membership will be counterproductive for this blessed society. 3. The dawah of la-jamaaat is a destructive dawah, it spreads confusion, enmity and hatred within any circle, as such I still maintain that anybody known to have this idea within this society if he refuses to resign, the leadership should expel him from the society. Islam will grow with or without anybody. 4. The la-jamaaat idea has done more harm to dawah work in this country than the evils of the kufaar all put together. Discussion on this is more than a cyber space issue and we have ample experience to shear. 5. Fatwa is an ijtihad of an aalim which can be right or wrong and it is given based on the prevalence of new developments most importantly contemporary, also fatwa that is applicable to an area may not be useful in another area with a different situation/experience, for instance there are fatwa that ban the driving of cars by women in Saudi Arabia, I stand to be corrected that this is not applicable to Nigeria because driving of a car is permissible in Islam for a woman if she has the knowledge of driving. 6. If formation of jamaaat is not permissible in Saudi Arabia for instance (even though there are dawah organizations based in Saudi Arabia), it is strongly advised because of Nigeria peculiar situation that, people should join hands together in carrying out dawah work/effort. The opinion of la-jamaaat is based on analogical deduction without clear evidence from the Quran and Sunnah, the evidences are not qatiyah. I need to be corrected that most of the proof in favour of this ideology is based on some of the seemingly evils/errors associated with some Islamic organization around the globe as it is believed that most of them are not immune from these errors. It is said for instance that virtually or most of the Islamic organizations all over the globe are not immune from hizbiyyah, and that some even have aqidatu baatillah. Some even put the opinion of their leaders above that of Allah and His Prophet. Fine agreed for the sake of argument all/most/ some Islamic organization in the world are not immune from these excesses or errors. But I do not agree that this is enough to say their formation is bidiatu sayyiah and that their activities are heretic. Let me say that the problem of Islamic organization in the world is a reflection of the Muslims of today, it is these Muslims that are forming those organizations and their after they translate themselves into its activities. I think we will all agree with me that organization/society/ movement are formed by Muslim/people, and that the kind of people that come together will dictate what their organization in term of idea, value and activities will reflect. I need to be educated if I am wrong, that if we want to be modest then we will say most Muslims in the world are not immune from ideological and physical error. If we want to be blunt we will say no Muslim today is immune from most of the evils the Prophet warns us against that they are destructive, name it; hizbiyyah, assabiyyah, kufr, shirk, bidiatu sayyiah, zina, killing, assassination, stealing corruption gishu from the leader and the led, takfir, tafniq nudism, tabarruj, al walau wal barau lighairi llah the list is endless. Muslims today stand by the opinion of their suyukh even when it clearly contradicts the Quran and the Sunnah. If this is the situation of the Muslim today why do we sit here and condemn organization and we keep silent about the situation/disposition of the Muslim knowing full well that peoples idea and ideals with their values will always reflect in whatever they do. I have always postulated that, it is by Allahs mercy on the present Ummah that He has not given/ establish dawlatu Islamiyyah with an Amir who have authority for us, if we are tried with dawlah today, it will be a fitnah rather than rahmah, the Amir may order the execution of some Muslim because average Muslim are rebellious, they do not have a clear leader whom they take orders from on issue of the deen, they enjoy been free from the order/directive of anybody. Muslims have not imbibed the spirit/culture of sama wa taaa and patience with leaders because there is wide spread of jahl in our society. Just ask any Muslim around you who is your Amir, if he understands the question rightly (per chance he is a scholar or a student of knowledge), he will find it difficult to answer, this is because the imam in his local rawatib mosque is not his Amir, neither is the Imam of his community and he doesnt belongs to any organization with a clear leader even NSCIA is an organization. Those that belong to organizations only take orders when it favours/ convenient to them. Today we have many reciters of the Quran and memorizers of the books of hadith, people today even memories the books of tarigh, usool and figh, but little can be shown for it. Muslim prefers other culture to that of Al-Islam and they try to make Islam adapt/concur to other culture and civilization. Evils beget devil. These are the people forming organizations here and there, what do you expect of these association. My understanding is if people are sanitized they will reflect what is good. At this juncture, I want to say the evils that have been associated with organizations even the individuals with the la-jamaaat idea cannot claim immunity from them. Let me share some of our experiences with the people of la-jama-aat ideology in my area. Note comprehensive discussion is beyond the context of this post: A. they are arrogant, they do not show respect to others rather they castigate and look down on others; B. They are the only students of knowledge and their scholars are the only accepted scholar; C. They are rebellious and they castigate the Muslim leaders, for instance after thorough investigation it was found out that they were the source of a spurious text/SMS going round the Muslim in Ondo state at a time, saying they have evidence to show that the Imam of Akure committed zina and that they are ready to present it; D. They are creating another Ummah within the Ummah of their community who sees themselves as the best, for instance in Ibadan Oyo State capital two of the prominent la-jamaaat idea scholars have their own jumah mosque with congregation; E. They are materialistic, they not only use the deen to acquire personal belongings, but crises that have led to some even cursing one another have been as a result of fraudulent activities; F. They are destroying the future Muslim generation, MSSN, Obafemi Awolowo University use to be a vibrant MSSN Branch where the worst human being have been transformed into the best of Muslim in the past until la-jamaaat idea take root in the branch and today OAU and its vibrancy is dead, the only relics available is what you see on facebook. MSSN FUTA was almost killed if not by Allahs intervention; G. The dawah of la-jamaaat have turned the best of friends into the worst of enemies who believe that they will demand justice/right from one another only on the day of qiyamah; H. It has led to the creation of more organizations/sittings/meetings in the name of halaqaat with clear leader and doing nothing but what the so called heretic organizations are engaged in; I. Some of them seclude themselves from the entire community, forming an alternative one; J. They do or practice taqiyyah and they openly tell lies about the Muslims and the leaders; K. They have spies who disguise and pretend to be part or members of an Islamic organization only to be getting information for their leaders to work on. L. They are ungrateful, condemning even societies Allah use to save them from the brim of hell and declaring it as heretic; M. They easily give people bad name hizbiy, khawarij etc. and do not accommodate opposing views; N. They deceptively demand for baiah/allegiance from people, for instance some of their scholars have forms which you fill and sign to its condition if you need their assistance on Islamic affairs such as marriage; O. They have eventually found some other organizations like Jamaatu ahlu sunnah in Ede Osun state, darus salafiyyah and Al-Muslimoon in Ibadan Oyo state. One of the accusations levied on all Islamic organization is hizbiyyah, with all humility and I stand to be corrected, hizbiyyah can be mahmood or manduub/mamnoooh depending on the circumstances. For instance, If an organization whose activities are based on the kitaba and sunnah ala manihaj salafu saalih claims to be better/superior to another society whose manifest activities is based on the whims and caprices of the leadership even after clear evidence have been presented to them. I stand to be corrected that this kind of hizbiyyah is NOT condemned in Islam. Even those with la-jamaaat idea believes that they are better than those who doesnt shear their idea (people of the society), is this not hizbiyyah and what is the ruling on it. What about the hizbullah in the Quran. I equally disagree that societies Allah have used in this country to salvage and transform the lives of millions of people and made them to realize they are Muslim practicing/implementing Allahs guidance in their lives within their capabilities are heretic, possibly because of one error or the other in their dawah methodology, I challenge any one with the la-jamaaat idea to say he is the perfect being, and his method is the best without any blemish. Even though the end may not justify the means at all times, human being devoid of perfection will always live to upgrade himself towards being perfect, as long as we realize one method is wrong and we change it for better, I believe and I stand to be corrected, Allah will overlook our mistakes in our dawah effort. The errors associated with the jamaaat with all humility is not their fault, It is the fault of the scholars who have abandoned the responsibilities of providing guidance to the Ummah of Muhammad, prominent Islamic scholar in the world are not of the view that these organization should be proscribed but the scholars in their areas should always correct their mistakes/errors. In other not to make this post burdensome, I want to end this advice by saying, those with la- jamaaat syndrome should be careful perchance they may be dividing the Muslim Ummah in this country, this is because if they do not agree that His Eminence Sultan Saad Abubakr III is the leader of the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria, then they should openly tell us who is our Leader as I strongly believe and I stand to be corrected that the vast majority of the Muslim in this country believe and accept that His Eminence is our leader and AMIR even those who disagree cannot say it open. If on the other hand they agree that His Eminence is our Amir, then what they are doing to Islamic organizations is rebellious to the sultan who have consistently and actively involve major Islamic organizations in taking decisions as it affects the Muslim Ummah of this Nation and has consistently been assisting Islamic organizations morally and financially. I conclude by praying, may Allah guides us to what He loves and He is pleased with.
