AN OPEN LETTER TO ARTHUR S. DEMOULAS FROM A LOYAL CUSTOMER OF STORE 33: Dear Mr. Demoulas, You don’t know me, I’m just a nameless, faceless customer of your Hudson, New Hampshire Store. But I have been lining your pockets on a weekly basis for over 27 years so I hope you will do me the courtesy of reading my letter. I was dismayed to learn that after your Board meeting last night that no decision has been made with regard to the future of Market Basket. I refuse to believe that this stalemate is all about greed. If it were, the decision would have been made to sell the Company to Artie T as it is clear that is the most profitable outcome for you and the other shareholders. No other company in their right mind would pay top dollar for Market Basket right now. You are hemorrhaging money at a rapid pace and there is no end in sight. I believe you are so consumed by hatred that you are blinded by what is best for you and your family. I understand that you feel wronged, and maybe rightly so. Don’t let the wrongs of the past dictate what will happen in your future. This kind of hatred can only be all consuming and serve to make you and those around you miserable. Your quest for revenge will leave insurmountable pain in its wake. Let it go. Your failure to take swift action has resulted in putting your Associates in dire straits. These people have worked their whole lives for you. You are causing stress and heartache to all of your loyal customers who stand in solidarity with your employees. You are hurting farmers and local economies. These people have never wronged you. Do you hate all of them too? Only you can solve this problem. Extend an olive branch to your cousin. Be the hero. Forgive and free yourself and your family. Accept his offer so that your Associates can go back to work, support their families and the stores can return to serving their communities. Somewhere up in heaven I believe that your father and uncle have made peace. Do the same. They, along with your grandfather, built this business from the ground up with their blood, sweat and tears. It is an amazing success story! Do you want to be the person responsible for its downfall? Will that be your legacy? Do the RIGHT thing Mr. Demoulas. Bring back Market Basket. Sincerely, Heather R.
