APC petition: We are ready, says INEC The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Ekiti State, Alhaji Halilu Pai, has expressed the readiness of the Independent National Electoral Commission to defend the June 21, 2014 Ekiti State governorship election at the tribunal. The All Progressives Congress on Saturday submitted a petition challenging the results of the election won by the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Mr. Ayo Fayose, before the Ekiti Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Ado Ekiti. INEC declared Fayose winner of the election ahead of the incumbent governor and APC candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, after polling 203,090 votes to 120,433 scored by Fayemi. But the APC alleged that the election was manipulated using federal might in favour of the PDP. Pai said the election petition filed by the APC was in line with the dictate of the Electoral Act 2010, as amended. In a text message sent to The PUNCH on Monday by Ekiti INEC Public Relations Officer, Taiwo Gbadegesin, the commission stated that Fayose won the election gallantly. The message stated that, “The candidate declared by INEC won the election gallantly having fulfilled all the laid down provisions of the Electoral Act 2010 as amended.” Copyright PUNCH.
