ASK CAMMY! Q.) Do you wear arm splints? A.) I used to need to wear arm splints all the time, but not so much anymore. My mom remembers the exact day when my hands switched from constant mouthing to hand wringing. It was the day of our photos shoot in 2011 (the last photo attached - of Ryan and I). My hands only go in my mouth now when Im getting sick or extremely tired or when I eat oatmeal (its true!). A hallmark sign of Rett syndrome is stereotypic hand movements such as hand wringing, squeezing, clapping, tapping, mouthing, washing or rubbing. The doctor saw my constant hand mouthing and asked my mom if I had ever been tested for Rett syndrome. My hands is what triggered the clinical diagnosis of Rett at 10 months old.
