ASm4: When this engine was plinthed special commemorative covers were carried on no.857 by Mr. Piet Steenkamp, a retired (and former) driver of this locomotive. These covers were signed by Anne Redmead (her married name) during this occasion. Now what is interesting is that her name is misspelled on the numberplate as Ann instead of Anne. Witness of the correct spelling is her signature on this cover! 16E no.857 was taken off her plinth and restored to working order in January 1990. She has hauled a lot of specials since.
