Thank you to our Diabetes Advocates that have continuously communicated the importance of investing in diabetes research with their legislators! After weeks of work, the House and Senate Appropriations Committees released their FY 2014 Omnibus Appropriations bill, which is expected to be considered by both chambers later this week. The bill includes a number of victories for the diabetes community, including: increased funding for the CDC’s Division of Diabetes Translation (DDT); funding for the National Diabetes Prevention Program, which was not funded in FY 2013; and increased funding for the National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The House and the Senate are expected to take up the bill later this week, if passed by Congress and signed by the President, this legislation will help propel the nation forward in the effort to stop diabetes!
